Writing while we get set up for the Peatbog Faeries show tonight, it’s always an exciting moment as we dive into a new season. This is my seventh Snape Proms and although August is the longest month of the year for the staff it’s also the best fun; the swifts are circling in a blue sky above the Maltings, July’s heatwave continues and everything is softer and more informal than the Festival in June. If the Festival is a sharp sprint for us, the Proms is more of an enjoyable marathon. Every gig is a contrast with the night before, I’m particularly looking forward to Carolina Chocolate Drops on 19th and to Trio Mediaeval on 26th – neither has played here before and their total diversity will be something to savour in our famous acoustic. The floors are waxed, the dressing rooms ready and the concert hall doors will shortly be open – bring it on!
